Asian Arts & Culture Center presents

ALASH: Throat Singing from Tuva

Saturday, November 9, 2013, 8 p.m.
Pre-Concert Lecture/Demonstration at 7:30 p.m.

Stephens Hall Theatre
Towson University
7900 block of York Rd.
Towson, MD 21252

The musicians of ALASH are masters of traditional Tuvan instruments as well as the art of throat singing—a technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. The members of the acclaimed ensemble are deeply committed to traditional Tuvan music and culture. At the same time, they are fans of western music. Believing that traditional music must constantly evolve, the musicians subtly infuse their songs with western elements, creating their own unique style that is fresh and new, yet true to their Tuvan musical heritage.

Members of CLASSICAL REVOLUTION BALTIMORE will join Alash in the second half of the concert.

A Pre-Concert Lecture/Demonstration will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Cristina Magaldi, TU Professor of Ethnomusicology, and Alash Manager/Interpreter Sean Quirk.

$15 advance; $20 general; $10 for AA&CC members and TU students with valid ID.
