Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory presents:
Symphony Orchestra of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory Friday, November 20, 8:00pm-10:00pm, Washington, DC MORE INFO: http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/index.cfm?fuseaction=showEvent&event=RKXAM The Symphony Orchestra of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory and the Kazakh traditional music ensemble Turan make their North American debut November 2009. The North American debut of Turan and the Symphony Orchestra showcases two facets of Kazakhstan's rich musical culture: the ancient instrumental and vocal folk traditions of its historically nomadic people, and the European tradition of classical music introduced to the country through Russian influence. Under the direction of two rising star conductors, French conductor Christophe Mangou and Kazakh conductor Kanat Omarov, the program begins with the Symphony Orchestra performing Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet-Overture Fantasy, followed by Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring celebrated Kazakh pianist Jania Aubakirova as soloist. Kazakh traditional music ensemble Turan takes the stage to perform a traditional composition, titled Kerogly, in addition to traditional songs. Founded in 2008 by a group of students from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, the members of Turan are award-winning folk artists who have performed around the world. Turan performs on ancient Kazakh instruments, including the lute-like zhetygen, sherter, and dombra (all plucked); the kyl kobyz ("the most ancient bowed instrument on earth"); the flute-like sybyzgy and saz syrnay; together with a host of percussive instruments, mouth harps, and throat singing. The program continues with the world premiere of Jamilya, a symphonic poem for Turan as soloists with orchestra, by award-winning contemporary Kazakh composer Aktoty Raimkulova. The program concludes with the William Tell Overture, the famous finale from Gioacchino Rossini's last opera and Leonard Bernstein's Overture to Candide. Be prepared. Know your craft. Auditions are your way to market your skills and demonstrate your value to the entertainment industry. 2. Be professional and courteous - to everyone- from the security guard at the front gate of the studio to the receptionist to the casting director, and everyone in the audition room. A performer’s personal behavior speaks volumes. Talent is hired on 3 things, your look. talent and your professionalism. 3. Be punctual. Casting takes place in a fast-paced environment and casting directors appreciate consideration of their time and schedules. Don’t waste their time! Be personable and responsive, but don’t talk too much or overstay your welcome. 4. Headshots and resumes. Make sure your headshot looks like you. Airbrush all you want, but you better look like just like your photo when you walk into that room. Always have extra headshots and resumes on hand at every audition. 5. Presentation. Make sure you can be seen and heard. Position yourself so that your face is visible (also, keep long hair out of your face). If you can’t be seen or heard, your performance is lost. Dressing for a role is fine, but don’t wear a costume. Wear something that suggests the character or the profession and let your performance do the rest. 6. Do your homework. Know who you are auditioning for. By researching the director, casting director, producer and show, you may find connections to other people or projects, and learn about the style or genre of a project or its creators. 7. Don’t let anything throw you. You have a right to be there, you were invited there to audition. When other performers enter the waiting room and don’t look like you, think about yourself as “the other way to go.” Often the casting process is about exploring various ways to go with a character, so stay confident and show them how you would do the role. If you’re asked to read another role or make an adjustment, take a moment, and then do your best to do what is asked of you. 8. Be gracious and receptive. Be open to direction. Don’t challenge, make excuses or try to explain yourself. Stay open and easy to direct. Casting directors may want to see if you can take direction. 9. No chit chat. They don’t want to hear about the traffic, or how your day is going. Put yourself in their position. They will meet 15-50 performers auditioning in one day. Would you want to hear 50 excuses on why you were late? Go in. Do your best work. Get out. Leave them wanting more instead of having overdosed on you. 9. Auditions, like scenes, have a beginning, middle, and an end. Walk in confidently, take charge of how you want to work, do your job and get out of the room (always leave them wanting more). Once you have left the audition, let it go. You can have a great audition and still not get the job. They just went another way. 10. Casting directors remember good work. Follow all of these steps and you will be called back by the casting director. It may be for that part or it may happen five years down the line. Each successful audition is like money in the bank. Show yourself in the best light possible by being prepared, professional and positive. Show Biz, Ltd., Show Biz, Ltd., |

Great service." -Howard Dean -former Governor of Vermont Helpful Insider Information Kids Agent Tips www.commercialkids.com/ck/helpful_tips.cfm 1. Write a short cover letter telling them about you. Be creative and professional in your mailing approach. If they want you– don’t make them hunt for your contact info. Include your contact number on everything! Be Polite. Don’t call again and again. They got your package. If they like your type or need your type, they will call you. If not now, they might need your type next month. 2. The more mailings you send out the better your chances. Kids talent agents come and go frequently and kids casting agents work on various projects. You need to keep your name, and photo out there and often. The more you are out there, the better your odds of booking jobs. 3. Always use a legitimate licensed kids talent agency. Get the up-to-date kids talent agent list at commercialkids.com if you are planning on doing acting, modeling, singing or dance professionally, these are the only talent agents you should ever use. If they are not on our lists, they are NOT LEGITIMATE and NOT LICENSED. 4. Do your homework. Millions of people are trying to break into showbiz. Be professional and stay ahead. You need to know who the executives are that are currently working on a project. All of our listings consist of currently working professionals. If they are not currently working, they are not listed. Just another way we save you time and money. 5. Study, practice and, then, study more. Take classes, and, then, take more classes. When you get that audition for that dream role, you will need the talent to back it up. Never stop learning and improving. 6. Don’t be afraid to start small. If you are planning on becoming a star and make your living as actor or model: learn your craft by taking smaller roles, doing plays, print work (fashion & commercial), and commercials. All are great things that will give you experience, skills, and credits and pay great money. 7. Be a big fish in a small pond. You don’t have to be in L. A. or N. Y. to be successful. Get a local licensed kid talent agency from our list and build experience locally before hitting N. Y. or L. A. 8. Do commercials. They teach you how to audition, work with kids agents, negotiate, act, work on a set, build your resume and bring income. One national commercial can pay you over $100,000 over two years. If you or your children are really serious get our Lights, Camera, Kid’s video and learn from industry professionals. TARGETING KIDS AGENTS * Determine what your interests and needs are and use our kids agents lists and preprinted casting director mailing labels to reach those specific casting agents, talent agents, modeling agents, music agents and dance agents. * Reach out only to licensed legitimate agents. If they are not on our lists, chances are they will charge you fees and steal your money. GET INVOLVED * Take classes. Read books and listen to CD’s. These materials will give you an advantage over the competition. RESUMES * Children and babies are not expected to have a resume. However if you have taken classes or have done jobs, let the Casting Directors and Talent Agents on our lists know. * All resumes are not created equal. Tailor your resume to the specific area of representation in which you are interested (i.e. If you are looking for a commercial agent, list your commercial credits first). * Always keep your resume current, and remember to include a contact telephone number. * Voice talent: An audio demo tape should generally not exceed 3 minutes. The purpose of the tape is to display your style, quality and range. INTERVIEW YOUR KIDS AGENT * Make the most of the situation. Ask questions. Be polite, but ask questions. The interview process works both ways. * Remember, your agent works for you and you work for your agent. The ideal relationship will be satisfying and beneficial for both parties. CHILDRENS HEAD SHOTS AND KIDS MODELING PORTFOLIOS * Don’t spend money on modeling portfolios or head shots when you are just starting out. Especially with babies and young children. They change too quickly and you will waste your money. Get a nice snapshot and send that out. When you start booking lots of jobs, then make that investment. Have FUN & BREAK A LEG! No agent yet? Get jobs on your own: mail directly to Casting Directors and Producers/Production Companies using the mailing labels at Commercialkids.com You will be surprised at how few people think of this. http://www.commercialkids.com/ck/helpful_tips.cfm |
