Project Engineer II : Job Description, Responsibilities, and Expectations
The Project Engineer role is a member of the Preconstruction and Project Support Team (PPS Team) and assists the Estimators, Project Managers, Superintendents and other operations staff members with preconstruction, startup, and project support activities for the successful completion of the companys construction projects. The PE is primarily responsible for setting up and maintaining preconstruction project records, coordinating information flow with clients and subcontractors, planning material and purchasing, overseeing and managing submittals, working with project team to develop preliminary project and labor schedules, updating and maintaining schedules, analyzing assigned projects and assisting with other project activities through close out. This position is a salary, non:exempt position and will report directly to the Vice President of Preconstruction and Administration.
Essential Functions
:Assist team of project managers with administrative support in the implementation of the various work tasks associated in planning, scheduling, execution, maintenance and closeout of a construction project.
:Evaluating drawings and specifications, preparing and submitting accurate and timely submittals for construction projects.
:Prepare, maintain, update submittal logs for all subcontractors working for KCC, as well as KCC items not in subcontractor scope.
:Tracking and receiving approved submittals from client and notifying the Project Manager and Project Superintendent of potential schedule impact.
:Assisting Project Managers by preparing back up relating to change requests.
:Timely completion of project close:out documents.
:Distributing contract documents to subcontractors, including drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
:Distributing final requirement documentation to subcontractors and accounting.
:When necessary, attending pre:bid, project and closeout meetings.
:Soliciting subcontractors and suppliers for proposals prior to proposal submission time.
:Review/ negotiate contract with Client and Project Manager and preparing contract for Executive to review and sign.
:Prepare correspondence with Clients, Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors, Suppliers, etc. Examples of include, but not confined to the following items: Schedule of Values, project schedule, memos, request for information, transmittals and submittals.
:Submit building permit application, follow:up on review progress and receive upon approval. Submit Check Request to Finance for associated fees according to Check Request procedures.
:During Construction Phase, proactively coordinate with Project Manager and Project Superintendent to achieve quality, schedule, budget and safety. Utilize and maintain tools: schedule and document management to track and record project performance.
:Maintain customer relations and when necessary conduct project update meetings. Ensure prompt payment from Client and payment to Subcontractor and Suppliers occurs according to percentage complete timely upon receipt from Client.
:Document quality and progress of each Subcontractor and Suppliers. Update Subcontractors and Suppliers of any changes to the plans, specifications and/or schedule.
:Inform management of productivity, costs, quality control, document management and processing of applications for payment. Notify management of any issues that arise which affects quality, budget, progress and safety.
:Monitor staffing needs, evaluate performance, address employee relation issues as warranted for staff.
:Assist / Manage work plans, post plans and pre:plan process
:Additional responsibilities may be included at supervisors discretion
