Versar is seeking a quality-focused Natural Resources Manager with strong team building and client relationship skills to oversee our Columbia Maryland office. In the most general terms, this position is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the Colombia office’s business performance with emphasis on people, projects, and proposals. The position is organized under Versar’s Environmental Services Group (ESG) supporting our Natural Resources Technical Service Area (TSA) for work primarily with state and local governments, but also federal agencies such as the Department of Defense (DOD), EPA, and NOAA. The successful candidate must provide leadership, operations management, and broad-based multidisciplinary oversight of projects within the Natural Resources group and be responsible for facilitating internal and client-facing meetings related to project work, client marketing, team building, training/mentoring junior staff, and creative problem solving.

People - Manage a team of 10-20 scientists working across several natural resources technical areas
• Facilitate a positive working environment by enabling professional success through individual and collaborative efforts
• Champion the professional development of team members at all seniority levels
• Establish a sense of team at the office and group level by promoting transparency and communication sharing
• Identify and support opportunities for Columbia staff to lead efforts critical to the overall success of ESG
Projects – Manage the financial performance of projects
• Engage with project managers to meet and exceed client project execution by safely providing high quality work on time and within budget
• Support internal project management procedures, including job opening, project revenue forecasting and estimate at completion forms
• Ensure that safety continues to be a critical part of Columbia’s culture
Proposals – Manage proposal development processes
• Lead and support business development activities for the Columbia team including securing new clients and new work to contribute to office and group-level growth
• Assist with the development of strategic direction/pursuits for the Columbia office and the Natural Resources TSA
• Manage proposals/scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules for various state, local and federal clients

• 7-9 years of experience with advanced degree; 10-12 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree
• Prior staff management, including experience managing and leading senior staff and large teams of multi-disciplined personnel
• Excellent communication skills, as well as strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving and research abilities
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members and clients and show demonstrated expertise in managing several complex tasks simultaneously
• Proven track record for developing or expanding programs through client marketing, successful proposal writing, and teaming
• Familiarity with state, local and federal contracting experience required
• Technical background in natural and/or water resources and professional certifications a plus
