The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is recruiting for an Engineering Specialist. The Engineering Specialist manages and maintains configuration control of railcar and locomotive documentation (drawings, manuals, etc.) and provides engineering support and review of documentation on locomotive and railcar procurements, overhauls, and other engineering projects. This position also consults with MTA, Consultant, and Contractor's staff to ensure that MARC's rolling stock is operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in administrative or professional work. One (1) year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. *One (1) year of this experience must include monitoring or investigating maintenance issues that affect a transit system and/or transit operation.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).

SUBSTITUTIONS INFORMATION

1. Additional experience in administrative or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty semester credit hours on a year-to-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
