The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.

Maryland Department of Transportation Transit Administration is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief, Transit Service Planning. The position supervises 7 full-time staff positions and engages in daily critical activity necessary for smooth operation of MTA's transit services. Including planning diversions of transit services during construction projects, updating Google transit trip planner, updating bus stop signage, coordinating with external stakeholders (e.g., SHA, City DOT, County DOTs, etc..) on road work and construction projects; implementing service changes; supervising studies and analysis on improving local transit services; creating public timetables; liaising with elected officials and responding to inquiries; coordinating responses to bus stop relocation/removal/addition request; and assist in the MTA's coordination with Baltimore City Public Schools needs for supplementary transit service.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Six years of experience in administrative or professional work. Two years of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures. *Four (4) of the required years must have been in Operations Planning, Data Collection and Analysis, Scheduling, Budgeting or related areas within a transit or multimodal transportation agency.

Preferred experience

Experience working with trapeze.


1. Additional experience in administrative or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-to-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
