The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is recruiting for an Assistant Superintendent - Facilities Maintenance. Metro Facilities Maintenance group is made up of 2 departments; Facilities Maintenance and Environmental Services. The Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Maintenance is assistant manager level of work directing and coordinating the day-to-day services of a maintenance division including budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and procurement. The employee supervises Repairmen, Janitors, and other staff and contract employees who repair, maintain, service, clean, install, inspect, test, and operate electro-mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, pneumatic and hydraulic, fire management systems (FMS), deluge, station ventilation, intrusion detection, and equipment. This position requires the ability to work variable shifts, to include evenings, nights and weekends. Employees are subject to call-in during emergency situations. The Assistant Superintendent will assist in directing, planning and development of methods to effectively utilize maintenance personnel and resources. The incumbent directly supervises union technical and/or professional employees and subordinate supervisors. The Assistant Superintendent's work is normally performed in an office setting. The incumbent is required to periodically travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area.


Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the operation of a mass transit system and/or related operations that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, equipment failure, inclement weather or other service disruptions. One (1) year of the required experience must have involved supervisory or program management responsibilities. *One (1) year of the required experience must have involved the oversight and management of preventive maintenance, repair, modification and inspection of electro-mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, pneumatic and hydraulic, fire management systems (FMS), deluge, station ventilation, intrusion detection, and equipment.


1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience for to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.


Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
