Responsibilities Would you like a summer position that allows you to develop innovative solutions to unconventional problems? The SPORT internship offers students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in the stimulating professional environment of one of the most advanced intelligence agencies in the world. Responsibilities As a SPORT intern you will work closely with full-time Operations Research analysts, applying the technical skills you've learned in graduate school to a challenging Agency operational problem of your choice. By applying scientific and quantitative methods to help NSA better understand and find solutions to problems that occur in its operational environments, you will directly impact the Agency's mission. You will also develop strong communication and leadership skills by interacting with and presenting your findings directly to your project customer, your fellow interns, and Senior Leadership Qualifications/Experience To apply, you must be enrolled in an MS or Ph.D. program in the fields of study listed below or closely associated fields of study. Analysts typically draw on such diverse disciplines as: - Operations Research - Modeling and Simulation - Industrial Engineering - Systems Engineering - Computer Network Engineering - Computer Science - Management Science - Data Science and Big Data Analytics - Probability and Statistics - Applied Mathematics Other qualifications include: - Must be a US citizen. - Must be eligible to be granted a security clearance. - Must be enrolled in an MS (combined BS/MS also accepted) or Ph.D. program in the above named programs or a closely associated program and have the requisite skills to do operations research modeling. (Non-negotiable qualification. Undergraduate students or individuals who are not enrolled in graduate school will not be accepted.) - Must be returning to graduate school for at least one semester following the internship summer. - A minimum GPA of 3.0 in all graduate course work or above is preferred. - Must be available for an operational interview and other applicable processing between the months of December 2017 and March 2018. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule - Students are paid a competitive salary commensurate with their education level. - Students receive paid annual leave and sick leave as well as paid federal holidays and team-building hours. - Students may participate in agency-wide extracurricular activities, including tours of key NSA facilities and Intelligence Community offices. - Students who attend schools in excess of 75 miles from Ft. Meade, MD, are eligible for a round trip airfare ticket to and from school or mileage reimbursement up to the cost of a government-issued airline ticket. - Daily transportation to and from work is not provided. Students participating in the program are highly encouraged to bring a vehicle. Carpooling with other students MAY be available but NOT guaranteed. - Subsidized housing accommodations are available upon request if school is located in excess of 75 miles from NSA main HQs campus.
