The John Carroll School is an independent, college-preparatory, co-educational Catholic high school located in Bel Air, Maryland. Rooted in the Scriptural revelation that all people are created in the image and likeness of God, The John Carroll School has and will continue to embrace diversity and inclusion as integral components of our mission.The Dorm Supervisor is responsible for providing international male students residing in the campus dormitory with a safe, clean and structured living environment that fosters student retention, satisfaction, achievement and success. The Supervisor oversees the daily management of the dorm area and uses proper judgment and discretion to address and resolve issues and concerns. The Dorm Supervisor lives in the dorm and must be able to connect with the students and possess a personality that inspires trust, and respect, and positively influences student behavior. Strong personal integrity, leadership abilities, and a high level of emotional intelligence are crucial. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: includes the following, and other duties as assigned Resides in the campus dormitory with the students providing appropriate supervision around the clock. This may include: 24 hour flex shifts, working seven days a week and working on holidays.Manages opening and closing of the dormitory during the school year. Oversees a check-in/check-out procedure for international students. In collaboration with the Office of Enrollment, coordinates student arrival and departure times - transporting students to and from the airport when necessary.Conducts inspections of bedrooms and common areas regularly, educating students on chores and duties associated with resident life in the dormitory. Coordinates with facilities to schedule deep cleaning during times when the dorm is closed for students. Initiates work order requests and needed maintenance.Participates in the orientation for new and returning international students. Conveys specific expectations that include trust, cooperation and fairness.Accompanies and transports students to and from doctor's appointments, communicating relevant information to the parents and the school.Collaborates with the Counseling and Enrollment offices to maintain student enrollment and success in the international program.Plans, participates and/or implements recreation/leisure activities, study time, transportation, and discipline when necessary.Manages meal periods. This may include accompanying students to the dining area, eating out, preparing meals, serving food and cleaning dishes and equipment at the dormitory.Leads regularly scheduled dormitory meetings with the goal of building strong relationships between all those residing in the dorm; creating an environment where all residents are encouraged to communicate by exchanging ideas and information.Organizes and inventories kitchen supplies. Completes grocery shopping and stocking of staple items in the dormitory.Follows and implements the guidelines set forth in the International Student Resident Life Handbook.Ensures the physical security of the dormitory area and reports concerns to the Director of Facilities.Knowledgeable of the whereabouts of all students residing in the dormitory. Monitoring and supervision are not limited to just the dorm rooms alone. The dormitory should not be left unsupervised at any time.Cooperates and coordinates with the school faculty and staff, when necessary, in the utilization of effective educational resources for the students.Completes all documentation and reporting as required. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Exceptional time-management, prioritization and organizational skills.Excellent written and verbal communication and active listening skills.Experience and desire to work with adolescent children and to help them become independent.Must possess a valid Driver's license with an impeccable driving recordAbility to provide supervision in a responsible, caring and respectful manner and serve as a role model.Technical skills / Computer literacy.Ability to collaborate, coordinate and maintain confidentiality.Education and / or Experience: College Degree preferred Minimum of 2-4 years of experience working with adolescents. Prior experience working in resident life, student affairs or as a camp counselor preferred.
