Behavior & Academic Specialist The Arrow Center for Education Tangram is seeking a Behavior and Academic Specialist. The Arrow Center for Education Tangram is a private separate day school providing special education and related services to students diagnosed with autism.The Academic and Behavior Specialist supports students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related disorders in reducing their demonstration of maladaptive behavior and increasing their demonstration of adaptive behaviors. This individual will assist staff and support students by implementing interventions based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. This individual will conduct observations and functional behavior assessments to determine problematic behaviors to target and use the findings to select and implement evidence-based interventions. Additionally, this individual will provide in-depth, hands on training to staff. The Academic and Behavior Specialist will work closely with the principal, diagnostic and prescriptive teacher, and classroom staff to identify and meet the needs of each student, maintain a safe environment, and cultivate a culture that supports student learning and growth. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position directly supervises staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Arrow Child & Family Ministries policies, State and Federal laws and policy and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance including coaching and future performance development; manages training needs through learning management system; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintain quality improvement goals and address at regularly scheduled staff meetings. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION, LICENSURE and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree preferred, with at least three (3) years' experience working with children and families preferably in the special education field and one (1) year of progressive supervisory experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, at least five (5) years' experience working with children and families preferably in the special education field and two (2) years of progressive supervisory experience.; Board Certified Behavior Analyst required. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the ministry. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables. OTHER REQUIREMENTSValid driver's licenseProof of current Auto Registration, Inspection and Insurance.Driving Record (three years) from the state in which the drivers license is valid.Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.Must submit to and pass random drug tests during employment.Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.Must be 21 years of age or older.
