The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Nurse Practitioner. The position entails acting as a delegate of the Attending Psychiatrist/Director of Consults on the Psychosomatic (also known as the Consultation and Liaison) Service and will provide clinical services in the following areas: Acute Care Medical and Surgical Units, Specialty Hospital, the Psychiatric Evaluation Service of the Emergency Department and the Acute Psychiatric Unit at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The duties of the position will include performing Psychiatric Consultations, Admission Evaluations, Psychiatric and Medical Management, and Discharge Management.The Nurse Practitioner practices within the guidelines of the unit department, and institution and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner: Written Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland.Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Work as a team member of the Psychiatric Consultation Service, receiving consultation requests, communicating with housestaff and attendings regarding consultation questions, evaluating patients both medically and psychiatrically. Collecting collateral information from the medical record, outside informants andthe teams taking care of the patient, formulating diagnosis and treatment plans. Communicating recommendations to the requesting team, and providing ongoing psychiatric treatment planning for patients with psychiatric or behavioral symptoms who are admitted to the hospital or in the Emergency Department. Patients include adults and adolescents : 16 years of age, experiencingpsychiatric disorders or medical conditions which may cause behavioral problems or psychiatric disturbances.This role will also require obtaining second opinions from the Attending Physician/Consult Director as indicated by clinical need in each case. The position will be supervised both formally and informally by the Attending Physician/Consult Director and theNursing Director in a matrix management structure.Essential Functions, but are not limited to:Provision of medical and psychiatric evaluation, medicationmanagement and psychotherapeutic interventions.Referral and facilitation of transition to appropriate levels of care for patients following hospital admission.Appropriate documentation of services provided.Education and support of non:psychiatric housestaff and attendings.Submission of billing sheets for professional fee reimbursement.Participation in rounds, required meetings and committees. Schedule of work will include weekdays.
