Classified Title: Molecular Diagnostic Technologist Role: ACRP Level: 3 Range: MC Salary: $50,500 - $65,000 Status: Full-Time Work Schedule/Hours: Monday-Friday/8:30-5p/37.5hrs. Location: East Baltimore Campus Personnel Area: School of Medicine The DNA Diagnostic Lab (DDL) at Johns Hopkins Medicine is committed to offering state of the art molecular testing for a wide array of inherited disorders. The lab is part of Johns Hopkins Genomics, a partnership between the Institute of Genetic Medicine (IGM) and the Department of Pathology at Johns Hopkins. JH Genomics serves as the clinical diagnostic facility for molecular genetics and genomics across Johns Hopkins Medicine. The DDL is a leader in the application of DNA sequence analysis to clinical diagnostics and continues to acquire new technologies to remain at the forefront of the molecular diagnostics field. The lab receives samples for testing from health providers within Johns Hopkins and from across the nation and the world. Specific Duties & Responsibilities The Molecular Diagnostic Technologist is a key position in the DDL performing both wet bench work and analysis of complex genomic data. A primary role of the position is to analyze molecular data obtained using a variety of techniques for clinical reporting from a variety of techniques. Additionally, the individual will maintain a database of characterized NGS variants for internal reference and public databases. Furthermore, the individual will be immersed in all stages of lab flow and will be trained in multiple clinical techniques. The individual may also provide administrative support as needed to the DDL Lab Manager, DDL Lab Director, and JH Genomics Quality Assurance Supervisor. Essential Job Functions: Perform data analysis for: Next Generation Sequencing Sanger sequencing MLPA Other fragment analysis MassARRAY Assist in the process of variant classification of DNA variants identified during clinical testing Perform bench top protocols on clinical samples and maintain competency in assigned technical protocols. Annual competency testing is required for all clinical technologists. Provide administrative support to the Lab Manager and Quality Control Supervisor Quality Control review Data review backup Attend twice-weekly lab meetings led by the Lab Manager; disseminate important information regarding test assignment and sample flow Work in a collegial manner with senior technical staff members Qualifications: BS/BA in biology, chemistry or related field and two years laboratory experience performing relevant data analysis and techniques. Preferred: Master’s degree with related graduate research may substitute for experience as permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula. JHU Equivalency Formula: Eighteen (18) graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
