The department of Oncology is currently seeking a full time Laboratory Technician. The Lab Technician will follow routine protocols under the close supervision of a faculty investigator or a senior technician, and will perform laboratory tests utilizing requisite lab equipment and instruments, making minor adjustments as required. Responsible for laboratory maintenance, preparing solutions and media and ordering supplies. May be responsible for care of laboratory animals. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs routine bioinformatics and laboratory analysis and tests such as; PCR, DNA purification, and next generation sequencing. Responsible for laboratory data entry and information retrieval from multiple online databases Operates requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment. Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in research experiments. Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED with some science coursework. Preferred: Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
