General Summary: The driver / chauffeur will provide transportation for the Johns Hopkins University President and others connected to his work. The candidate must be a safe and responsible driver who thrives in a fast-paced environment, supporting frequently changing needs. The primary duties and responsibilities of the job are: Driving (70%): Drive President and President’s guests to/from meetings, appointments and events in a timely and safe manner, planning routes in advance with regular checks of current traffic conditions. Work with scheduler to determine logistics of any event, and to be able to convey final details and direction (e.g., building floor, room number, event entrance) upon arrival at destination. Communicate with President’s Office to convey and coordinate plans and timing of arrival and departures. Provide transportation to members of the President’s family as needed (subject to seperate accounting). Ensure security of passengers during transportation and arrival/departure from events and meetings. Drive members of the President’s Office staff to offsite university meetings or errands. Maintain a detailed log of hours, routes, travelers and purpose of trip (university vs. non-university business) for accounting purposes. Oversee maintenance of President's automobile, including maintaining the vehicle in excellent working condition (e.g., regularly checking gas, oil, fluids, tires, etc.) and ensuring any needed repair or service. Serve as confidential courier for President and university officers. Run errands, as requested by the President’s Office. Provide tours of Baltimore for the President and his guests, in coordination with other university departments. Support University events at Nichols House, including coordinating or providing valet parking. In cases of accidents or emergencies, summon proper authority to the scene, report damages to the vehicle, and obtain appropriate information from authorities and other parties. Other (30%) Coordinate certain maintenance requests at the President’s on-campus residence, working with Homewood Plant Operations. Work collaboratively with JHU security in times of emergency. Work collaboratively with Events Planner and Housekeeper to prepare for events and activities at the President’s residence. Support operations of the President’s Office, as requested. Qualifications: High school degree or equivalent. Substantial familiarity with Baltimore City and surrounding areas. At least 1-3 years related experience. Valid driver’s license with excellent driving record. Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and nights as schedule demands. Ability to work in a drug-free environment; subject to drug screening, background check and full referencing. We are looking for someone with the following skills: Skillful driving, traffic and route management in Baltimore and surrounding areas. Familiarity with traffic apps and other resources for timely transportation services. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidences and discreet, tactful behavior at all times. Ability to maintain records, update schedule, and read road maps, street signs, directions, etc. Trustworthy, respectful of privacy. Ability to interact in respectful and courteous manner. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
