The Development group includes individual-giving, institutional-relations, stewardship and communications professionals, and it collaborates significantly with the university's centrally-based colleagues. The Constituent Relations group uses a robust communications program to promote a diverse set of events and engagement opportunities that seek to promote public-health advocacy and annual fund support. The School recently completed its Centennial year and is in the final year of a University- wide fundraising campaign, Rising to the Challenge. GENERAL SUMMARY/ PURPOSE STATEMENT The Associate Director of Development is responsible for a) planning, implementation and management of major gift fundraising portfolio (50%) and b) leading major gift pipeline development strategy to improve donor retention, increase annual leadership giving, and identify and engage new donors through phone calls, emails, correspondence and other substantive actions (50%). This is a highly independent position with regular reporting to the Deputy Director of Development, and ultimately to the Sr. Director of Development and Associate Dean for External Affairs. This position will require regular interactions with deans, faculty, staff, students, alumni, volunteers, and friends of the School. Travel is associated with this position. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage a portfolio of significant individual prospects to conduct efficient and results-oriented identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities which includes effectively presenting the case for support of the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Conduct approximately 60-75 visits each year with established donors/prospects at major giving capacity ($100K+) Make 175-200 personalized, individual discovery contacts per year, work with Development Research to qualify major prospects and forward leads to appropriate gift officer. Collaborate with Sr. Development Associate, Constituent Relations Team members, and Relationship Management colleagues in analyzing and managing current Pipeline Development strategy and implementing additional affiliate groups based on shared work experiences, department/degree affiliations, public health issue interest or other common themes. Identify and assign prospects qualified for visits in a timely manner to fellow MGOs or self, depending on geographic region. Utilize ALADIN database and related systems to manage discovery activities and report on their findings; understand opportunities to further engage prospects, including promoting volunteer opportunities at School. Commitment to the use of information technology and the management of database system is required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (mandatory): Bachelor's degree required. Candidates must have the ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging, fast paced collegial environment. Political savvy, integrity and discretion and pragmatic consensus building skills required; mature judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information required. Excellent communication (oral, written, interpersonal and telephone) skills and attention to detail required. Must have ability to interact with faculty, staff, donors and volunteers at all levels. Ability to organize and establish objectives and priorities in a complex organizational environment required. Three years of related experience, with at least one year of professional experience required. This position requires someone with a strong commitment to and passion for the mission of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Special knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of issues and work related to Public Health, commitment to collaboration and teamwork, and strong multi-tasking and organizational skills a plus. Technical qualifications or specialized certifications: None required Any specific physical requirements for the job: This position requires travel (4-6 days/month on average) and occasional weekend work. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
