Job Description The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work has an opportunity for a Senior Accountant to work in the Institute for Innovation and Implementation. Perform advanced level review and complex analysis of accounting transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance with uniform accounting principles and practices. May supervise staff. The Institute for Innovation and Implementation works to bridge gaps across science, policy, and practice to improve outcomes for and with children, youth, young adults, and families. Over the past decade, The Institute has been involved with many key childrens initiatives in Maryland and across the nation, many of which have been supported by federal grants, waivers, and contracts from the US Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Institute is currently serving as the coordinating partner of The Technical Assistance Network for Childrens Behavioral Health (The TA Network), a SAMHSA-funded national technical assistance center supporting more than 70 grantees across the country. It is also a core partner in the National Wraparound Initiative. In Maryland, The Institute works closely with the Departments of Human Resources, Juvenile Services, Department of Education, and the Department of Health, supporting and informing systems-level reform efforts. Essential Functions\: Serve as lead department accountant for post-award grants management accounting; managing complex, high-volume accounting projects. Define and monitor the key financial issues for several grant projects. Independently resolve fiscal issues in compliance with the fiscal policies and procedures of both the sponsor and UMB; employing acceptable accounting standards. Act as the Institutes liaison to the appropriate internal or external contact(s) for the resolution of more complex matters as needed. As part of the comprehensive management of all post-award grants management issues, prepare schedules, exhibits and databases to utilize for financial reporting in the key areas of expense authorization, budgetary control and cash flow analysis. Monitor, initiate or delegate financial transactions (ie, payroll, requisitions, expense transfers) on a daily basis as necessary for proper budgetary control In conjunction with the appropriate University office, assure that all invoicing for the Institutes awards is prepared and documented according to the terms and conditions of the award. Performs other duties as assigned. Education\: Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration Experience\: Three (3) years accounting related experience using general acceptable accounting principles. Other\: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities\: Possesses a knowledge of general acceptable and non-profit accounting practices and able to perform position in compliance with all requirements, regulations, and taxation laws. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences. Ability to effectively use analytical and organizational skills in order to carry out and follow through with complex assignments for which no clear precedents exist. Ability to research, compile, compare, forecast, and interpret facts and figures to make sound judgments based upon this knowledge. Ability to establish and communicate ongoing and new priorities and projects in order to meet scheduled deadlines. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology. Maintains productivity and uses knowledge strategies to increase knowledge base. Skills in using Microsoft Office software, Financial Edge Accounting, and t financial system for advanced analysis and useful reporting. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers.
