The National Aquarium is looking for an Accounting Manager, Revenue and Fixed Assets who is responsible for proper financial statement presentation of all revenue and fixed asset transactions. Additionally, this role will work inter-departmentally to ensure revenue line owners understand the data provided by the accounting department and that organizational leadership has one set of actual revenue numbers to compare against projections. The Aquarium has several revenue streams and this role will ensure proper reporting and controls are in place to report accurately and completely on the aggregate and detailed revenue streams. In addition to Revenue Accounting, this position will also be on point for all Fixed Asset accounting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Revenue Management and Accounting Collaborate inter-departmentally to gather relevant information for accurate revenue recordation Record all revenue (including ticket sales, commissions, grant revenue, and miscellaneous revenue), accruing revenue as needed; reconcile assigned accounts monthly Reconciles all revenue streams and ensures appropriate accounting treatment; resolving all issues identified via the reconciliation process Train owners of revenue streams to ensure understanding on accounting treatment and tracking against goals Serves as primary point of contact to trouble shoot all issues related to revenue reporting and fixed assets, partnering with all levels of the organization to identify and implement solutions Monitor daily revenue numbers and generate a weekly revenue recap Support State and Federal draw down/reimbursement; provide pipeline reports to stakeholders as needed (includes communicating clearly across all levels of the organization to ensure proper management of awards) Manage proper reporting of all non-cash gifts Manage restricted giving process and provide monthly restricted giving analysis Monitor unclaimed property list with State of Maryland Partner with Philanthropy department on fundraising initiatives Create, implement and update policies and procedures as necessary; training those impacted to ensure understanding of and compliance with changes.Fixed Asset Management and Accounting This role will be involved in a special project to design and implement a Fixed Asset module as a tool for the Aquarium to track Fixed Assets. Record all Fixed Asset Journal Entries (acquisition, depreciation, transfers, sales, disposals, etc.) Work with Major Projects team to ensure appropriate documentation and treatment of items such as improvements, impairments, etc. Develop annual Fixed Asset inventory process; train users on process and implement/manage process Monitor equipment rental for capital vs. operating terminology to ensure proper financial statement presentation Create, implement and update policies and procedures as necessary Financial Reporting Generate a monthly revenue report that reconciles inter-departmentally and provides leadership with one revenue number Perform bank reconciliations for all accounts Support reporting requirements for internal decision makers Support reporting requirements on all State and Federal awards Prepare work papers for annual audit as assignedQualifications/Position Requirements: Bachelor s degree in Accounting, CPA License preferred Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience, NGO experience preferred Advanced knowledge of US GAAP specifically around Revenue and Fixed Assets Analytical business thinker with a proven ability to research accounting issues Articulate self-starter with strong initiative and creative problem solving skills Effective organizer, planner, and implementer; and, Ability to establish strong professional business relationships at all levels of the organization.
